La Tierra Mia
A Chicano Park Story is a book that tells the story of activists and residents from a predominantly Mexican-American neighborhood in San Diego, California. They fought to keep the city from building a police station where a park was once promised at the site in 1970. It was important for the design to preserve traditional motifs and iconography that represent the park's resilient cultural history. We designed a cover using traditional Old English type with a frame featuring a pattern attributed to the park. The colors used represent Mexican-American culture, and the symbols used are Aztec icons.
